Preparing Your Quilt Top

Below are tips for preparing you quilt top for machine quilting.

1. Complete the Quilt Top

Give special attention to the process of adding borders.

2. Prepare the Backing

Remove all selvages
Press all seams open
Make the backing a minimum of 8” longer than the quilt top in length and width. This gives me 4” on each side to load the backing onto the quilt frame.
Make sure backing is squared up.

Choose Your Batting

The batting needs to be a minimum of 8” longer than the quilt top in length and width.

You may bring your own batting or purchase it through Windy City Quilting.
